Fronted by a perfect swathe of sand and backed by a bird sanctuary lagoon, the multi award-winning Galley Bay is in an unrivalled setting on the tranquil west coast of Antigua. There is little disruption from the outside world - access to the sugar mill reception is by wooden bridge. There’s nothing to fault and everything to praise. Smiling staff look after you from the moment you arrive, whisking you off by golf cart to one of the intimate 98 suites, Tahitian-style Gaugin cottages or the newly refurbished premium Beach Front rooms. In thatch, bamboo and terracotta, with louvre windows and wooden decks, they feature rattan furnishings and colourful local art. The majority grace the white sand beach, others are tucked away in the 40 acre gardens and have a private splash pool.
Indulgence is sipping a rum punch at the Teepee Bar, watching the sun slowly sink behind the Caribbean Sea, before feasting on the phenomenal Euro-Caribbean food at Seagrape, Galley Bay’s main restaurant. The cosy Gauguin restaurant, meanwhile, serves grilled candlelit feasts in thatched cabanas to the rhythmic sound of rolling waves. For the utmost in relaxation and pampering, why not explore Indulge, the beautiful new spa inspired by the distinctive look of the Gauguin cottages.
Whilst it’s definitely a place for relaxation, this haven also offers plenty of things to do, from non-motorised water sports to cycling.

Inside, the Peninsula is the perfect combination of old-world charm and state of the art technology. Be prepared to pass through paparazzi on your way in.
Service is faultless and discreet, and guests are whisked up the grand stairway to their rooms with minimal fuss. The 185 rooms and 54 suites are decorated in a contemporary classic style. Best of all, there’s a bedside control panel that allows you to regulate the lighting, television, stereo, air conditioning and even the ‘Do not disturb’ sign on your door. Room service runs 24-hours a day.
The Peninsula features one of the best and biggest New York hotel health clubs and ESPA spas, set over three floors. Similarly, its restaurants and bars are favourites among professional New Yorkers. Signature restaurant Fives has a good reputation for its Contemporary American cuisine and city scenes, viewed through arched windows.
But the hippest public space in the hotel is the rooftop Salon de Ning. An intimate interior bar leads to two large outdoor terraces with Chinese-style day beds for relaxing and taking in the stunning skyline.

Malta’s lesser-known sister island,
Gozo, meaning “joy” in Castilian, is the second largest Island of the Maltese archipelago, with a population of approximately 30,000.
Though separated from mainland Malta by a 5km stretch of sea, Gozo is distinctly different from Malta. The Island is a third the size of Malta, more rural and simple, its culture and way of life rooted in fishing, as well as in primitive pastoral and agricultural activity.
Exuding a relaxed pace of life, Gozo is the ideal secluded safe haven and at just 25 minutes or so by ferry from Malta, the hop can easily be made for even the shortest stay.
Gozo and its inhabitants have their own distinct character and identity, with noticeably different lifestyles, accents and dialect. Gozitans are known for their friendliness and welcome to visitors, going out of their way to indicate a direction or help a visitor find their destination.
The real beauty of Gozo, apart from its stunning seascape and interior, lies in the villages. Here, it seems as if time really does stand still. The locals treasure their peace and the villages are tranquil, proving to be a wonderful respite from the trials and tribulations of everyday life for visitors.
The Island is well served by restaurants, where the eating is good and varied. Apart from restaurants and cafés offering local dishes as well as continental menus, one can also enjoy themed restaurants, such as Chinese or Indian.
