UK NEWS
Holidays will still play a vital role in lifting the British economy, as well as British spirits in 2009, according to a latest ABTA study. Two thirds of the UK claim a huge high from a summer holiday while over 70% believe the break from routine is a vital escape from credit crunch pressures. The study shows that in spite of financial worries, summer holidays are three times more prized than pay rises, and that by booking and going on holiday this year we can collectively help lift the British economy, as well as spirits. ‘Holidays are not just about the two weeks away, the feel good impact is felt from the moment you pick a destination and in all the doom and gloom the whole process offers a welcome relief from the winter months’ comments Paula director, Oundle Travel, ‘Everyone has to think long and hard about what they spend but holidays are still firmly in the family budget.’ We have seen a positive level of bookings for January 2009, with Egypt, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean selling particularly well, with the smaller more specialised Greek Islands performing well for early summer departures, says Paula.
